Politics of the U.S. towards Dominican Republic in the 20th and 21st Century. Political and Economic Perspective.

Dominikana w XX wieku stała się obiektem intensywnych ingerencji i działań ze strony Waszyngtonu. W poszczególnych momentach historycznych podłoże działań amerykańskich w kierunku Dominikany różniło się od siebie, niemniej jednak strategiczne położenie geopolityczne tego państwa czyniło je atrakcyjnym obiektem i odgrywało istotną rolę szczególnie w polityce regionalnej USA. Początkowo w pracy tej Dominikana zostaje osadzona w polityce Stanów Zjednoczonych wobec całego regionu Ameryki Łacińskiej. Ponadto przeanalizowane zostają najważniejsze doktryny polityki zagranicznej USA, począwszy od Doktryny Monroe, przez rooseveltowską politykę „grubej pałki”, czy Doktrynę Trumana. W drugim rozdziale dokonana zostaje analiza polityki zagranicznej USA w kontekście gospodarczym, biorąc pod uwagę interwencję z 1907 roku, a także ogólne ingerencje amerykańskie w dominikańską gospodarkę, amerykańskie inwestycje w tym kraju, oraz wdrażanie programów, jak Sojusz dla Postępu, czy Konsensus Waszyngtoński. Trzeci rozdział pracy jest analizą wpływów amerykańskich na Dominikanie w perspektywie polityczno-militarnej. Szczególnie istotnymi wydarzeniami były przede wszystkim amerykańska okupacja Dominikany w latach 1916 – 1024, okres rządów dominikańskiego dyktatora - Rafaela Leónidasa Trujillo i jego znaczenie w amerykańskich zmaganiach zimnowojennych, oraz interwencja amerykańska z 1965. Ponadto przeanalizowany zostaje amerykański wpływ na wybór rządzących na Dominikanie oraz stosowanie nacisków różnego typu mających na celu umożliwienie amerykanom realizację ich własnych celów politycznych i gospodarczych. Ostatni – czwarty rozdział przedstawia najbardziej aktualne stosunki amerykańsko – dominikańska od początku XXI wieku. Porusza najważniejsze kwestie sporne, jak status Haitańczyków na Dominikanie, kwestie łamania praw człowieka, czy problem z nielegalnym przemytem narkotyków i broni do USA. Przedstawia też pozytywne aspekty wzajemnych relacji, kwestie imigracji dominikańskiej, wymiany gospodarczej i ścisłego partnerstwa obu państw oraz przynależności do regionalnych organizacji gospodarczych.

Dominican Republic in the XX century has become the subject of intensive intervention and action from Washington. In particular historical moments substrate American actions in the direction of the Dominican Republic differed from each other, but the strategic geopolitical location of the country made them an attractive subject and played an important role especially in the US regional policy. Initially, the work of the Dominican Republic is rooted in US policy toward the region of Latin America. Also analyzed are the most important doctrine of US foreign policy, from the Monroe Doctrine, by Roosevelt policy of “Big Stick”. The second chapter is an analysis made of US foreign policy in the economic context, taking into account the intervention of 1907, as well as general American intervention in the Dominican economy, American investments in the country and the implementation of programs such as the Alliance for Progress and the Washington Consensus. The third chapter is an analysis of the work of American influence in the Dominican Republic in the politico-military perspective. Particularly important events were primarily American occupation of the Dominican Republic in the years 1916-1024, Dominican dictator’s reign- Rafael Leonidas Trujillo and its importance in American struggles of the Cold War, and the 1965 US intervention. Moreover examined is the American influence on the choice of the ruling in the Dominican Republic and the application of pressure different types in order to allow Americans achieve their own political and economic objectives. The last fourth chapter presents the most current US-Dominican relations from the beginning of the XXI century. The most important issues in dispute, as the status of Haitians in the Dominican Republic, the issues of human rights violations, whether the problem of illicit drugs and weapons into the United States. It also presents the positive aspects of the relationship, the Dominican immigration, economic exchanges and close partnership between the two countries and belonging to a regional economic organizations.
