Autoimmune and allergic diseases in the light of selected hypotheses

Obecnie popularny na świecie „zachodni styl życia” przyczynia się do znaczącego wzrostu częstości występowania chorób autoimmunizacyjnych i alergicznych. Celem pracy było dokonanie przeglądu literatury i opisanie jakie czynniki wpływają na występowanie tego rodzaju schorzeń oraz w jaki sposób przyczyniają się one do pojawienia się lub do nasilenia objawów choroby. Pracę oparto na analizie wybranej literatury dotyczącej chorób autoimmunizacyjnych i alergicznych zwracając uwagę na przesłanki zawarte w hipotezie higienicznej, hipotezie wczesnej ekspozycji, hipotezie starych przyjaciół oraz hipotezie dietetycznej. Opisano niektóre choroby autoimmunizacyjne i alergiczne oraz przeanalizowano wpływ takich czynników ryzyka jak styl życia, dieta czy wpływ innych schorzeń. Opisano również metody leczenia, takie jak na przykład leczenie z wykorzystaniem pasożytów, leczenie z wykorzystaniem marihuany czy ingerencja w florę bakteryjną człowieka. Wspomniane metody leczenia są bardzo obiecujące, jednakże wymagają dalszych badań. Ze względu na powszechność występowania choroby autoimmunizacyjne i alergiczne stanowią istotny problem zdrowia publicznego, jednakże tematyka tych chorób ciągle jeszcze stanowi ogromne pole do prowadzenia nowych badań, opracowywania nowych metod terapeutycznych i doskonalenia tych już istniejących.

The „western lifestyle” which is very popular nowadays has many consequences, including a significant increase in the incidence of autoimmune and allergic diseases. The purpose of this thesis was to review the literature and describe the factors that influence the occurrence of autoimmune and allergic diseases and how they contribute to the occurrence of these type of diseases. This paper is based on an analysis of selected literature on autoimmune and allergic diseases paying special attention to hygiene hypothesis, the early exposure hypothesis, the old friend hypothesis, and the dietary hypothesis. Examples of autoimmune and allergic diseases have been described, and the impact of factors such as lifestyle, diet or the impact of other illnesses has been analyzed. Treatment methods, such as, for example, parasitic treatment, marijuana treatment and interfering with human bacterial flora have also been described. The methods mentioned above are very promising, but they need to be refined. The topic of autoimmune and allergic diseases is a very important public health problem and it continues to be a huge field for new research, the development of new therapeutic methods and the improvement of existing ones.
