The evolution of machines – new actors in the process of communication. Extension of the biological human’s nature by means of the latest technology

Niniejsza praca została poświęcona syntetycznej analizie przemian zachodzących na płaszczyźnie komunikowania społecznego w wyniku oddziaływania najnowszych technologii. Współczesne artefakty powstałe za sprawą rozwoju dokonującego się w dziedzinach takich jak sztuczna inteligencja, robotyka społeczna oraz cybernetyka sprawiają, że zmieniają się nie tylko aktorzy oraz środowiska komunikowania, ale także całe spectrum uwarunkowań towarzyszących podejmowanym aktom wymiany informacji. Zmiany te zostały dotychczas słabo rozpoznane na gruncie nauki o komunikowaniu, w związku z czym w ramach rozważań zawartych w niniejszej pracy podjęto próbę ich uchwycenia. W tym celu postanowiono następujący problem badawczy – w jaki sposób przebiega ewolucja procesu komunikacji społecznej w dobie rozwoju najnowszych technologii? Należy kolejno odnotować, że dynamiczny postęp technologiczny określany w literaturze przedmiotu jako technoewolucja oddziałuje również na dalszy rozwój gatunku ludzkiego. Problematyka ta stanowi przedmiot rozważań ewolucyjnej koncepcji, jaką jest transhumanizm opisujący oddziaływanie najnowszych technologii na biologiczną kondycję homo sapiens. Opierając się w części teoretycznej niniejszej pracy na przeglądzie kluczowych założeń z zakresu Human-Computer Interaction, a także wykorzystując wspomnianą wcześniej teorię transhumanizmu, dokonano résumé ukazujące rozwój narzędzi technologicznych wykorzystywanych w trakcie procesu komunikowania społecznego. Tym samym zaprezentowano, w jaki sposób dochodzi do przenikania się obu rodzajów ewolucji – biologicznej oraz technologicznej. W pierwszym rozdziale dokonano konceptualizacji pojęć takich jak: sztuczna inteligencja, robot społeczny oraz istoty wirtualne. Scharakteryzowano również sposoby ich wykorzystywania oraz zmiany zachodzące w wyniku upowszechniania się wskazanych artefaktów. W kolejnym rozdziale przedstawiono wzajemne oddziaływanie technoewolucji oraz ewolucji biologicznej stymulujące rozwój gatunku ludzkiego, oraz powstawanie coraz bardziej zaawansowanych narzędzi komunikowania. Analiza przemian zachodzących w wyniku oddziaływania technologicznych artefaktów na poszczególne elementy rzeczywistości społecznej obejmuje również opis społecznych konsekwencji dokonującego się technorozwoju. Kolejna część pracy zawiera ustalenia metodologiczne sporządzone na etapie organizacji badania nad komunikowaniem w świetle rozwoju najnowszych narzędzi technologicznych. We wskazanym badaniu wykorzystano metodę jakościową w postaci wywiadów pogłębionych nieskategoryzowanych przeprowadzonych ze specjalistami zajmującymi się rozwojem technologicznych rozwiązań z zakresu sztucznej inteligencji. Empiryczna część pracy obejmuje więc analizę zmian zachodzących na płaszczyźnie komunikowania społecznego oraz predykcje co do dalszego rozwoju technologicznego. Zaprezentowane w pracy ustalenia teoretyczne, zawarte w literaturze przedmiotu oraz analiza wyników przeprowadzonego badania pozwoliły w kompleksowy sposób spojrzeć na problematykę technoewolucji, oraz jej następstw.

This thesis is devoted to the holistic analysis of changes occurring on the social communication field as a result of the influence of the latest technology. Contemporary artefacts created as a result of developments in areas such as artificial intelligence, social robotics and cybernetics making not only actors and communications environments change, but also the entire spectrum of conditions accompanying the acts of information exchange. These changes have so far been weakly recognised in the field of communication science, and therefore an attempt has been made to capture them as part of the considerations contained in this thesis. For this purpose, the following research problem was established – how is the process of social communication evolving in the era of the development of the latest technologies? It should be noted that the dynamic technological progress mentioned in the literature on the subject as technoevolution also affects the further development of the human species. This issue is the subject of consideration of the evolutionary concept of transhumanism describing the influence of the newest technologies on the biological condition of homo sapiens. Based on the theoretical part of this work which included a review of the key assumptions in the field of Human-Computer Interaction, as well as on the aforementioned theory of transhumanism, a résumé was made showing the development of technological tools used in the process of social communication. In this way, it was presented how both types of evolution – biological and technological – interpenetrate. In the first chapter, concepts such as artificial intelligence, a social robot and virtual actors were conceptualized. The methods of their use and the changes taking place as a result of the dissemination of the indicated artefacts were also characterized. The next chapter presents the interaction of techno-evolution and biological evolution stimulating the development of the human species, and the emergence of more and more advanced communication tools. The analysis of changes taking place as a result of the impact of technological artifacts on individual elements of social reality also includes a description of the social consequences of the ongoing techno-development. The next part of the work contains methodological arrangements made at the step of organizing research on communication in the light of the development of the latest technological tools. In the indicated study, a qualitative method was used in the form of uncategorized in-depth interviews conducted with specialists dealing with the development of technological solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. In this result, the empirical part of the work includes an analysis of changes taking place at the level of social communication and predictions about further technological development. The theoretical findings presented in the work, included in the literature on the subject and the analysis of the results of the research conducted, allowed for a comprehensive look at the issue of technoevolution and its consequences.
