Children's imagination as an escape from the critical reality of Spain after the Civil War in the works of Ana Maria Matute: La rama seca (The Dry Branch) and El árbol de oro (The Tree of Gold)

Wyobraźnia dziecięca potrafi tworzyć nowe światy, ożywiać zwykłe przedmioty i ubarwiać szarą rzeczywistość. Tak właśnie jest w przypadku sześcioletniej dziewczynki z domu Mediavilla, która pozostawiona samej sobie całymi dniami bawi się swoją lalką zrobioną ze suchej gałązki zaś Ivo, bohater drugiej opowieści, widzi złote drzewo. Obydwoje bohaterowie dzielą również ta samą brutalną rzeczywistość powojennej Hiszpanii: bieda, głód, osamotnienie z którymi próbuja się zmierzyć uciekając się do swojej wyobraźni.

Children's imagination can create new worlds, animate ordinary objectsand embellish grim reality. That is the case of six year old girl fromthe Mediavilla’s house. The abandoned girl all day plays with a dollmade of dry twigs. Ivo, the hero of the second story, sees the goldentree. Both characters share the same brutal reality of postwar Spain:poverty, hunger, loneliness. They try to face it, escaping into toworld of imagination.

La imaginación infantil crea nuevos mundos, da vida a los objetos y pone colores a la vida real. Así es en el caso de la niña de los Mediavilla que pasa todos los días jugando con su muñeca hecha de rama seca y un trozo de tela y también es el caso de Ivo que ve el árbol de oro. Los dos vivien en las precarias condiciones de la realidad de la España de la posguerra como la miseria, el hambre y la soledad con las que se enfrentan buscando sus mundos imaginativos.
