Terminological compound words in language of computer science - a morphological and semantic analysis

Niniejsza praca powstała w celu przedstawienia oraz analizy złożeń terminologicznych w niemieckim języku informatyki. Badanie skupione jest na charakterystycznych cechach złożeń rzeczownikowych omawianego obszaru. Teoretyczna część pracy złożona jest z dwóch rozdziałów. Pierwszy służy przedstawieniu procesów słowotwórczych występujących w języku niemieckim zawierając przy tym kompozycję, derywację i prefiksację, jak i szczególne rodzaje słowotwórstwa. Ze względu na istotne znaczenie języka angielskiego w obszarze rozwoju technologicznego uwzględnione obok głównych procesów słowotwórczych zostały również zapożyczenia wraz z ich rodzajami. W drugim rozdziale przedstawiono definicję wyrazu fachowego oraz semantyczne rodzaje złożeń uwzględniając przy tym relację semantyczną pomiędzy poszczególnymi członami w złożeniach wieloczłonowych oraz hybrydowych w języku niemieckim. Trzeci rozdział, będący zarazem częścią praktyczną pracy, zawiera ogólną charakterystykę języka informatyki oraz analizę złożeń wyekscerpowanych z leksykonu „Lexikon der Informatik” Petera Fischera i Petera Hofera oraz czasopism internetowych na płaszczyźnie semantycznej i morfologicznej. Uwzględnione zostały złożenia determinatywne, wielokrotne oraz hybrydowe.

The aim of this thesis is to present and analyze compound words in the German technical jargon of computer science. The analysis focuses on the structure, the use of metaphors in compounds and the semantical relationship between bases of compound words. The theoretical part of this thesis consists of two chapters. The first one aims to present the main word formation processes in German: compounding, derivation, prefixes as well as special kinds of word formation. Due to the great importance of English in technological progress the first chapter includes the theory on borrowings and their types apart from the main word formation processes. The second chapter contains the definition of technical jargon as well as the theory of semantic types of compound words including the semantical relationship between the individual segments in complex and hybrid compounds in German. The last chapter being the practical part of this thesis contains a brief description of the German technical jargon of computer science and the analysis of compounds which were excerpted form Peter Fischer’s and Peter Hofer’s “Lexikon der Informatik” as well as from online magazines. The research has been divided into a semantic and a morphological part and contains determinative, complex and hybrid compounds.

Die vorliegende Arbeit dient der Darstellung und Analyse der in der deutschen Fachsprache der Informatik auftretenden Termini. In dieser Forschung wird Schwerpunkt auf den Bau, die semantische Beziehung der einzelnen Bestandteile von substantivischen Komposita in Computertechnik und auf deren Metaphorik gelegt. Der theoretische Teil dieser Arbeit beinhaltet zwei Kapitel. Das erste Kapitel dient der Darstellung von Wortbildungsprozessen in der deutschen Sprache und umfasst die Grundeinheiten der Wortbildung, die Hauptwortbildungsprozesse: Komposition, Derivation und Präfigierung sowie besondere Wortbildungsarten. Aufgrund der wichtigen Rolle der englischen Sprache in der technologischen Entwicklung, werden im ersten Kapitel neben den Hauptwortbildungsprozessen der deutschen Sprache auch Entlehnungen und einzelne Entlehnungsarten in Betracht gezogen. Im zweiten Kapitel werden die Definition des Fachwortes und semantische Typen von Zusammensetzungen aufgrund der semantischen Beziehung zwischen den einzelnen Bestandteilen dargestellt. Inbegriffen wird auch die semantische Beziehung der mehrgliederigen und hybriden Zusammensetzungen.Das dritte Kapitel und somit der praktische Teil der Arbeit beinhaltet die allgemeine Charakteristik der Informatiksprache und die Analyse der aus Peter Fischers und Peter Hofers Lexikon der Informatik und Online-Zeitschriften exzerpierten Zusammensetzungen auf morphologischer sowie semantischer Ebene. Analysiert wurden Determinativkomposita, mehrfache Komposita und hybride Zusammensetzungen.
