Healing practices in the Dogon country

Wśród wielu grup etnicznych Afryki są też takie, które od dziesiątków lat otacza nimb tajemnicy, niedomówień czy nawet forma popularności medialnej przekraczającej granice ich odmienności. Do jednej z tych społeczności należą bez wątpienia Dogonowie. Zainteresowanie zarówno badaczy, jak i odwiedzających kontynent afrykański turystów, budzą jednak głównie niecodziennie usytuowane wioski, nie do końca opisany mit etiologiczny, rozległa wiedza astronomiczna, czy oryginalna twórczość artystyczna – z charakterystycznymi maskami na czele. Na ich temat powstaje mnóstwo publikacji, filmów i książek często o charakterze pseudonaukowym jednak temat związany z praktykami leczniczymi tej społeczności jest rzadko poruszany w literaturze. Dlatego niniejsza praca jest próbą uchwycenia i zrozumienia Dogońskiej koncepcji zdrowia, sposobów walki z chorobą jak również zmian zachodzących we współczesnym świecie. Prezentuje także przegląd obecnego stanu badań dotyczącego opisywanej grupy etnicznej.

Among the many ethnic groups of Africa, there are also those that have been surrounded by a cloud of mystery, misunderstandings, and even a form of media popularity that exceeds the boundaries of their differences for decades. One of these ethnic groups undoubtedly includes the Dogon. However, the interest of both researchers and tourists visiting the African continent is primarily piqued by unusually situated villages, a partially described etiological myth, astronomical knowledge, and especially their characteristic masks. There are many publications, films, and books about them, often with a pseudoscientific approach, but the topic related to the healing practices of this community is rarely discussed in the literature. This publication is an attempt to capture and understand the Dogon concept of health, ways of fighting disease, as well as changes taking place in the modern world. It also presents an overview of the current state of research regarding the described ethnic group.
