Origin and development of the bow in the European Stone Age.

W poniższej pracy opisany został rozwój łuku na terenach Europy w czasie epoki kamienia oraz geneza tej technologii. W początkowej części pracy zostaną zaprezentowane najstarsze dowody na istnienie łuku, pochodzące z południowej Afryki, datowane na ponad 63 tysiące lat temu. Następnie opisane zostaną znaleziska z terenu Europy w celu bliższego prześledzenia ewolucji łuku na jej terenach w okresie całej epoki kamienia. W pierwszej kolejności przedstawione zostaną najstarsze ślady na jego obecność na tym kontynencie, datowane na około 54 tysiące lat temu. Następnie szczegółowo opisane zostaną także najważniejsze okazy znalezisk dotyczących łuku i strzał pochodzących kolejno z paleolitu, mezolitu i neolitu.

In this thesis the origin and development of bow and arrow during the Stone Age in Europe was described. In the initial parts of the text the oldest evidence for use of this technology from the south of Africa will be presented, dating back to around 63,000 years ago. Next, finds from Europe will be described in order to present the evolution of the bow in that region during the entirety of the Stone Age. The oldest traces of its presence on this continent, dating back to about 54,000 years ago, will be shown. The most important bow and arrow finds from the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods will be also described in detail.
