The development of urban fortifications in location Cracow until the beginning of 16th century based on historical archeology

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest powstanie oraz rozwój fortyfikacji Krakowa lokacyjnego od schyłku XIII wieku aż do początku XVI wieku. Celem była próba przyporządkowania elementów obronnych do wyodrębnionych etapów powstawania fortyfikacji, które zostały wyróżnione w oparciu o jedyny zachowany odcinek murów, tzw. system obrony Bramy Floriańskiej. W pracy zwrócono uwagę na fakt, że pierwsze murowane elementy miasta lokacyjnego mogły powstać za panowania Leszka Czarnego w Krakowie, a nie jak dotychczas sądzono za rządów Wacława II Czeskiego. Wykazano również pewne tendencje przy wznoszeniu oraz modernizowaniu murów obronnych. W pracy omówiono przekształcenia fortyfikacji miasta lokacyjnego w ramach systemów obronnych: system ścianowy, wieżowy, basztowy oraz bastejowy, którego najlepszym przykładem jest Barbakan.

The subject of my thesis is genesis and development of Cracow fortification from the end of the 13th century until the beginning 16th century. The purpose of my thesis was the trial of matching defences elements to extracted phases of creation of the fortifications, which were picked on the base one of the fragments of the walls also known as the defensive system of Florian`s Gate. In this thesis tried to prove and related the first stone-laid elements of the settlement town when Leszek Czarny was the king in Cracow, till now some of researchers think they were appeared with a Wacław II Czeski reign. Also It has been indicated some of tendencies with erecting and modernizing defensive walls. In the thesis has been discussed transformations of the fortifications settlement town, which was divided into defensive system: walls system, towers system, bastille system, early modern artillery system, whose the best instance is the Barbican.
