Children in the Jastorf cultural community in light of the analysis of selected sepulchral sites

Tematem prezentowanej pracy jest zagadnienie postrzegania okresu dzieciństwa w społeczności kultury Jastorf w okresie przedrzymskim. Przedstawiona w pracy analiza opiera się na badaniu znalezisk i zespołów pochodzących z wybranych stanowisk sepulkralnych tej jednostki tj. nekropoli w Luboszycach (pow. krośnieński), Gräfenhainichen (Lkr. Wittenberg) oraz Muchow (Lkr. Ludwigslust - Pachim). Przebadano głównie aspekty związane z zróżnicowaniem form grobów, modelu wyposażenia typowego dla grobów dziecięcych, wymiarów popielnic, wieku antropologicznego zmarłego dziecka. Zgromadzono i opracowano materiał statystyczny odnoszący się do próby reprezentatywnej grobów dziecięcych, którym posłużono się w analizie. Zebrany materiał statystyczny zaprezentowano przy pomocy tabeli i wykresów. Do określenia wymiarów urny przeznaczonej dla dziecka posłużono się wyznaczeniem proporcji, współczynnikiem WB oraz pierwiastka z iloczynu wysokości i średnicy naczynia. Interpretacja wyników została poparta ustaleniami dokonanymi na polu innych dyscyplin naukowych, m.in historii, antropologii fizycznej, antropologii kulturowej.

The subject of the presented work is the issue of the perception of childhood in the community of the Jastorf culture in the pre-Roman period. The analysis presented in the paper is based on the study of finds and assemblages from selected sepulchral sites of this unit, i.e., necropolises in Luboszyce (pow. krośnieński), Gräfenhainichen (Lkr. Wittenberg) and Muchow (Lkr. Ludwigslust-Parchim). The main aspects examined were the variation in the forms of graves, the model of equipment typical of children's graves, the dimensions of ashtrays, and the anthropological age of the deceased child. Statistical material relating to a representative sample of children's graves was collected, compiled and then used in the analysis. The collected statistical material was presented using tables and graphs. To determine the dimensions of the urn intended for a child, the determination of the proportion, the WB coefficient and the root of the product of the height and diameter of the vessel was used. The interpretation of the urns was supported by findings made in the field of other scientific disciplines, including history, physical anthropology, and cultural anthropology.
