The English-Polish Glossary of Military Commands of the United States Army from the II World War

Celem niniejszej pracy było stworzenie angielsko-polskiego glosariusza komend, używanych przez armię amerykańską podczas II wojny światowej. Jego potencjalnym odbiorcą są członkowie grup rekonstrukcji historycznej oraz tłumacze, zajmujący się przekładem książek i filmów historyczno-dokumentalnych. W pierwszej części przedstawiono ideę rekonstrukcji historycznej, krótki opis udziału Amerykanów w II wojnie światowej oraz pojęcie musztry. W drugiej części zgłębiono pojęcie terminologii oraz teorii terminu, a także pojęcie glosariusza. Na trzecią część składa się zaś analiza tłumaczenia wybranych komend. Każdy opis opatrzony jest krótką definicją, fonetycznym zapisem wymowy, polskim odpowiednikiem oraz uzasadnieniem wyboru tłumaczenia. Niektóre komendy opatrzone są także graficzną ilustracją.

This study provides the English-Polish glossary of military commands used by the United States Army during the II World War. It is intended to be used by members of reenactment groups and translators who translate historical texts and movies. In the first part of this thesis the idea of historical reenactment is presented as well as a short description of the participation of the U.S Army in WWII. In the second part the subject of terminology, theory of term and glossary is explored. The analysis of the translations of chosen commands is included in the third part of the thesis. Every description is accompanied by a short definition, phonetic transcription and the justification of the chosen translation. The illustrations of the performance of some commands are also provided.
