Beyond concepts : a sketch on the perception of music and its conceptualization

W artykule zadaję pytanie o naturę treści percepcji utworu muzycznego na tle sporu między konceptualistami a antykonceptualistami. W tym kontekście rozważam trzy funkcje treści utworu: 1) ewokującą; 2) recepcyjną i 3) oceniającą.

In this short sketchy paper I put forward a question about the nature of the content of music perception. The reconstruction of the debate between the conceptualist camp on the one side and the anticonceptualists on the other shows that it is really hard to interpret the content of music perception in terms of concepts (as broad as it can be). At the same time, the idea of the threefold function of the content of music perception is elaborated on. First, there is the function of evoking - the content of music perception evokes in different ways certain mental states. Second, the function of detection through the content of music perception is taken into account. Last, the third function - that of evaluation - is presented and described.
