The European Media Freedom Act. Towards protecting media freedom and pluralism in the European Union

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest zaprezentowanie Europejskiego Aktu o Wolności Mediów jako ważnego kroku w kierunku ochrony wolności i pluralizmu mediów w Unii Europejskiej. W pracy omówione zostały regulacje normatywne i najważniejsze orzeczenia sądowe dotyczące wolności wypowiedzi i prawa do informacji, które stanowią źródło wolności działania i pluralizmu mediów. Zaprezentowane zostały również najnowsze dane dotyczące sytuacji podmiotów medialnych oraz występujących zagrożeń dla prawidłowego działania dziennikarzy, a także przyjęte akty prawne i środki podjęte przez Unię Europejską w ostatnich latach w celu poprawy sytuacji w sektorze mediów. W pracy zostały także przedstawione najważniejsze przepisy Europejskiego Aktu o Wolności Mediów, dotyczące podmiotów medialnych i dziennikarzy, których celem jest poprawa stanu sektora medialnego i zagwarantowanie skuteczniejszej ochrony wolności i pluralizmu mediów w Unii Europejskiej.

The subject of this thesis is to present the European Media Freedom Act as an important step towards protecting media freedom and pluralism in the European Union. The thesis discusses normative regulations and the most important court decisions regarding freedom of speech and the right to information, which are the source of media freedom and pluralism. The latest data on the situation of media entities and the existing threats to the proper activities of journalists were also presented, as well as the legal acts adopted and measures taken by the European Union in recent years to improve the situation in the media sector. The thesis also presents the most important regulations of the European Media Freedom Act regarding media entities and journalists, which purpose is to improve the condition of media sector and guarantee more effective protection of media freedom and pluralism in the European Union.
