Where do emotions in music come from?

Przeświadczenie, że muzyka wiążę się z emocjami, jest odwieczne i występuje praktycznie we wszystkich kulturach. Dziś najczęściej formułowane jest za pomocą stwierdzenia, że muzyka wyraża emocje. Z czego jednak wynika ten związek i na czym polega? Na te pytania wciąż nie ma jednoznacznej odpowiedzi. Jak tak wiele rzeczy w naszej kulturze, dwie najbardziej typowe wywodzą się od Platona i Arystotelesa.

The belief that music is inherently connected with emotion is as old as music itself and is found in virtually every culture. In contemporary discourse, this belief is most commonly articulated in the claim that music expresses emotion. Yet the nature and origin of this connection remain obscure. As in so many other areas of our culture, the two most influential approaches can be traced back to Plato and Aristotle.
