Functions of auction catalog. On the example of the publishing houses of the Rara Avis antique shop in Cracow

W pracy scharakteryzowano wtórny rynek książki w Polsce, najważniejsze rodzaje antykwariatów, ich historię, działalność i społeczne funkcje. W tym kontekście opisano handel aukcyjny jako szczególną formę obrotu książką na rynku antykwarycznym. Zasadniczym celem pracy była charakterystyka krakowskiego antykwariatu naukowego Rara Avis, w tym jego działalności aukcyjnej oraz opis i analiza zbioru katalogów aukcyjnych towarzyszących każdej aukcji organizowanej przez antykwariat. Katalogi scharakteryzowano pod kątem ich kompozycji wydawniczej i typograficznej oraz funkcji, które mogą pełnić. Wyróżniono i opisano m.in funkcję informacyjną, dokumentacyjną, naukową, historyczną, poznawczą, kolekcjonerską i inne.

The dissertation describes the secondary market of books in Poland, the most important types of antique shops, their history, activities and social functions. In this context, auctioning is described as a special form of book trading on the antiquarian market. The main purpose of the thesis was the characteristics of the Krakow academic antiquarian Rara Avis, including its auction activity, as well as description and analysis of the catalog of auction auctions accompanying each auction organized by the antiquarian bookshop. The catalogs are characterized in terms of their publishing and typographic composition and the functions they can perform. Featured and described, among others information, documentary, scientific, historical, cognitive, collector and other functions.
