Mythological motives in a comic-book

Praca opisuje wątki mitologiczne występujące w popularnym komiksie. We wstępie następuje krótka charakterystyka komiksu jako odrębnego medium posługującego się specyficzną narracją. Następnie przedstawiony jest proces tworzenia odrębnego uniwersum w seryjnym komiksie superbohaterskim i pewne podobieństwa do świata wykreowanego w historycznie poświadczonych mitologiach. W pracy podjęto próbę ustalenia pozycji komiksu w stosunku do mitu i bajki mitycznej. Okazało się, że jest on znacznie bliższy bajce mitycznej, ale nie posiada jej cech, które opisuje ewolucjonistyczna teoria przeżytków. Kolejne rozdziały przedstawiają historie, w których pojawia się problematyka związana z najważniejszymi aspektami ludzkiej egzystencji. Omawiane w nich są kwestie dotyczące problemu legitymizacji władzy, poświęcenia dla dobra ogółu, wyznawanych wartości i pochodzenia Zła. W opisywanych komiksach wyeksponowane zostały motywy mesjanistyczne i prometejskie, a także wątki zainspirowane nihilizmem. W następnym rozdziale przybliżono proces budowania synkretycznego świata, w którym mieszają się ze sobą wątki znane z wielu religijnych tradycji świata. Na zakończenie zanalizowano postać mającą cechy czarownika i prześledzono jej powiązania z kulturami Dalekiego Wschodu.

The work describes mythological motifs appearing in a popular comic-book. In the introduction there is given a short characteristic of a comic-book as a separate medium which uses specific narration. Next, the process of making separate universum in a serial super-hero comic-book is introduced and some similarities to the world created in historically authenticated mythologies. The attempt was undertaken in the paper to determine the position of the comic-book in relation to a myth and a mythological fairytale. It occured that it is considerably closer to the mythological fairytale, but it doesn't have the characteristics which are being described by the evolutionary theory of relics. Subsequent chapters introduce the stories in which the issues connected with the most important aspects of a human existence appear. There are being discussed in them the matters concerning the problem of legitimization of a power, of sacrifice for the common good, of believed values and of provenance of Evil. In the described comic-books the messianic and promethean motives were exposed, and also the motifs inspired by nihilism. In the next chapter the process of building a syncretic world in which blend the motifs known from many different traditional religions of the world was brought closer. To finish, the figure having traits of a magician was analyzed, and were charted its connections with the cultures of Far East.
