Mając na względzie różnorodność i niebanalność okoliczności, na jakich buduje fabułę El hereje (heretyk) Miguel Delibes, celem niniejszej pracy jest przybliżenie czytelnikowi, w postaci krytycznego wprowadzenie do lektury powieści, złożonych form duchowości, które wyłoniły się w szesnastowiecznej Hiszpanii. Kontekst prowadzonej analizy wymusza wyjście poza ramy studiów historiograficznych, kierując uwagę także ku zagadnieniom natury kulturowej, literackiej czy teologicznej, a także usprawiedliwia ich subiektywną niekiedy selekcję i prioretyzację, podyktowaną kryterium przydatności w objaśnianiu poszczególnych wątków narracji. Na szczególną uwagę zasługuje nieoceniona rola dokumentacji z procesów inkwizycyjnych, które niejednokrotnie okazują się jedynym dostępnym źródłem informacji zezwalającym na odtworzenie zdarzeń z przeszłości. Silna polaryzacja na gruncie religijnym w wielu częściach Europy epoki Odrodzenia w sposób nieunikniony przenika także na obszar Półwyspu Iberyjskiego, tym niemniej przyjmuje tu postać specyficzną z racji występowania paru czynników, którym poświęcamy należną uwagę w kolejnych zagadnieniach analizowanych na łamach niniejszej pracy magisterskiej.

Considering diversity and untriviality of circumstances on which Miguel Delibes builds the plot of The Heretic, the aim of this thesis is to familiarize the reader, through a critical introduction to the novel, with the complex forms of spirituality which emerged in the sixteenth-century Spain. The context of this analysis forces one to go beyond the frames of historiographical studies, drawing attention to cultural, literary and theological issues, as well as justifying their subjective selection and prioritization implemented for the purpose of explaining the various threads of the narrative. Particularly noteworthy is the invaluable role of the documentation of inquisitorial trials, which often turns out to be the only available source of information allowing the reconstruction of events from the past. Strong polarization on religious grounds present in many parts of Renaissance Europe inevitably permeates also the area of Iberian Peninsula. Nevertheless, in Spain the polarization takes a unique form because of the presence of several factors, which are given due attention in the process of analysis of the subsequent issues in this thesis.

En la presente memoria de licenciatura nos proponemos acercar el panorama de la compleja espiritualidad española del siglo XVI, con el objetivo de proporcionar al lector de El hereje de Miguel Delibes una elaboración crítica que facilite la comprensión de este libro de difícil lectura. Tal finalidad nos obliga a desplazar el enfoque del estudio historiográfico a otros campos de interés y justifica unas selecciones arbitrarias marcadas por el alcance de la narración. Llama la atención el papel inestimable de las actas inquisitoriales, que no pocas veces constituyen la única fuente de información en el intento de recrear el pasado, si bien, como todo texto escrito, requieren una interpretación adecuada. La polarización religiosa de la Europa renacentista se refleja inevitablemente también en la Península, sin embargo, adquiere aquí un carácter peculiar debido a varios factores, cuyo análisis efectuamos a continuación.
