The Female Character Creations in the Work of Stanislaw Lem

Celem pracy jest możliwie wszechstronna prezentacja kreacji kobiecych występujących w twórczości beletrystycznej Stanisława Lema. Skupiam się w niej na różnicach w ujęciu poszczególnych grup postaci oraz na zmaganiach podmiotu czynności twórczych z portretowaniem kobiecości. Proponuję typologię bohaterek opartą na czynnikach „dostępności” i „oddalenia” oraz podejmuję próbę interpretacji znaczeń poszczególnych postaci przy pomocy narzędzi krytyki feministycznej i psychoanalizy.

The purpose of the thesis is a possibly comprehensive presentation of the female character creations featured in Stanislaw Lem’s fiction. I concentrate on the differences in the way the author embraces particular groups of women characters, as well as his struggles with the task of portraying them. I suggest a typology of the female characters based on the criteria of “availability” and “focus”. I also try to interpret the inherent meanings of specific characters using the tools of the feminist criticism and psychoanalysis.
