Teoria amalgamatów pojęciowych jako sposób rozumienia memów internetowych

Niniejsza praca magisterska “Teoria amalgamatów pojęciowych jako sposób rozumienia memów internetowych” dotyczy zagadnień związanych z tematyką internetowych memów i rozumienia ich przez osoby je oglądające.Głównym celem pracy było sprawdzenie, czy możliwe jest wytłumaczenie znaczenia internetowych memów za pomocą teorii amalgamatów pojęciowych (rozwijanej przede wszystkim przez Gillesa Fauconniera i Marka Turnera). W tym celu przeprowadzona została analiza wybranych memów internetowych z zakresu światowej polityki.W części teoretycznej wyjaśniono, czym są internetowe memy i czym różnią się one od innych memów. Dodatkowo wytłumaczona została koncepcja amalgamatów pojęciowych.Główna część pracy poświęcona została analizie memów internetowych pod kątem teorii amalgamatów pojęciowych. Sprawdzono, czy wybrane wcześniej memy są amalgamatami pojęciowymi i przedstawiono argumentację dotyczącą tych ustaleń. Opisano również procesy zachodzące przy próbach zrozumienia tych memów przez osoby je oglądające. Opisy te zostały wzbogacone schematami powstawania konkretnych memów jako amalgamatów pojęciowych.W ramach wspomnianej analizy dało się zauważyć pewne prawidłowości i podobieństwa, jeśli chodzi o wyjaśnienia na temat każdego mema będącego amalgamatem pojęciowym. Internetowe memy mogą zostać zrozumiane przez ich odbiorców dzięki pewnym procesom zachodzącym w ich umysłach, m.in mowa tu o kompozycji, uzupełnianiu, rozwoju, kompresji czy tworzeniu przestrzeni mentalnych. W trakcie analizy okazało się, iż najczęstszym typem sieci integracji pojęciowej są siatki dwuzakresowe. Nie znaleziono za to żadnego przykładu siatki prostej. Wszystkie analizowane memy osiągnęły ludzką skalę doświadczenia i spełniły większość zasad optymalności, co świadczy o ich wysokiej jakości. Najczęstszym typem relacji pomiędzy elementami przestrzeni wyjściowych była analogia, za to w przestrzeni amalgamatu najczęściej pojawiała się relacja unikalności.Mimo tego, że internetowe memy istnieją od kilkunastu lat, ich temat w odniesieniu do amalgamatów pojęciowych pozostaje niedostatecznie rozwinięty, dlatego konieczne są dalsze badania w tym zakresie. Memy gwarantują jednak obszerny materiał do analizy, nie tylko w kontekście teorii amalgamatów pojęciowych.

The present paper “The theory of conceptual blending as a way of understanding internet memes” is related to the subject of internet memes and understanding them by their recipients.The main aim of this paper was to examine if it is possible to explain the meaning of internet memes with the help of the theory of conceptual blending (developed mainly by Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner). In order to do that, a number of selected internet memes about politics were analysed.The theoretical part of the paper contains the definition of what an internet meme is and how it differs from other memes. Furthermore, the theory of conceptual blending was explained.The main part focused on the analysis of internet memes in the context of the theory of conceptual blending. The purpose was to verify if previously selected internet memes could be considered conceptual blends and why it would be possible. Additionally, the analytical part of the paper contains descriptions of processes occurring during observing and understanding mentioned memes. These explanations were supplemented with schemes presenting the development of memes as conceptual blends.Throughout the analysis, it was possible to observe certain regularities and similarities in terms of explanations behind selected memes being conceptual blends. Internet memes can be understood by their recipients because of certain processes taking place in their minds. Among other things, it is possible due to composition, completion, elaboration, compression and development of mental spaces. The analysis revealed that the most common type of integration network is the double-scope network, whereas there were no examples of simplex networks. All analysed internet memes achieved human scale and met the majority of optimality principles, which demonstrates their high quality as conceptual blends. The most common outer-space vital relation between elements from input spaces was analogy. In regards to inner-space vital relations in the blend, the most prevalent one was uniqueness.Even though internet memes have existed for several years, the subject of their correlation with the theory of conceptual blending is developed insufficiently, hence further research in this area is necessary. Memes provide a substantial material for analysis, not only in terms of the conceptual blending theory.
