Nowa Huta – The New World: Socialist Realism in architecture, as an attempt in creating a great style

Problematykę pracy stanowi zjawisko kulturowe realizmu socjalistycznego, a dokładnie próba stworzenia wielkiego stylu twórczego, przede wszystkim w odniesieniu do architektury. Poczynając od genezy idei, jej podstaw teoretycznych, określono zasady i wymagania stawiane twórcom sztuki, zwłaszcza architektom, a następnie omówiono konkretne przykłady architektury w miastach ZSRR oraz państwach bloku wschodniego. Aby rzetelniej odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy z perspektywy czasu socrealizm w istocie można nazywać wartościowym, szczególną uwagę poświęcono Nowej Hucie, której charakterystyczną zabudowę do dziś możemy obserwować w przestrzeni miejskiej Krakowa.W wyniku przeprowadzonej analizy wysnuto wniosek, iż socrealistyczna architektura Nowej Huty spełniała wszystkie funkcje charakterystyczne dla epoki socrealizmu, a jej utylitarny charakter i dziś jest uzasadniony. Dodatkowo pozyskuje on wartość historyczną i kulturową.

The subject of the thesis is the cultural phenomenon of socialist realism, and more precisely an attempt to create a great creative style, primarily in relation to architecture. Starting with the genesis of the idea, its theoretical foundations, there have been defined the principles and requirements for art creators, especially architects, and next there have been presented and discussed specific examples of architecture in the cities of the USSR and the countries of the Eastern Bloc. In order to more thoroughly answer the question whether, in retrospect, socialist realism can in fact be called valuable, special attention was paid to Nowa Huta, whose characteristic buildings can still be observed in an urban space of Krakow. As a result of the analysis, it has been concluded that the socialist realist architecture of Nowa Huta fulfilled all the functions typical of the socialist realism era, and its utilitarian character is still justified. Additionally, it acquires historical and cultural value.
