History of Floods in the Upper Course of the Prądnik River and Their Social Aspects in the Years 1933–2001

Niniejsza raca poświęcona jest analizie historii powodzi w górnym biegu rzeki Prądnik oraz ich społecznych konsekwencji w latach 1933–2001. Rzeka ta, przepływająca przez malowniczą Dolinę Prądnika, stanowiła istotny element życia lokalnych społeczności, zarówno pod względem gospodarczym, jak i przyrodniczym. Mimo niewielkich rozmiarów samego cieku, powodzie, które miały miejsce na omawianym terenie, wielokrotnie doprowadzały do znaczących strat materialnych i stanowiły zagrożenie dla mieszkańców regionu. Praca skupia się na analizie przyczyn, przebiegu oraz skutków powodzi, wykorzystując dostępne dane historyczne, przyrodnicze oraz relacje mieszkańców. W badaniach zastosowano bowiem interdyscyplinarne podejście, łączące elementy geografii, historii oraz socjologii, co pozwala na pełniejsze zrozumienie zjawisk powodziowych w analizowanym okresie. Istotnym źródłem danych były wywiady przeprowadzone z mieszkańcami Doliny Prądnika, które dostarczyły cennych informacji dotyczących indywidualnych doświadczeń związanych z powodziami.

This thesis is dedicated to analyzing the history of floods in the upper course of the Prądnik River and their social consequences between 1933 and 2001. The river, flowing through the picturesque Prądnik Valley, was a significant element of the life of local communities, both economically and environmentally. Despite the small size of the stream itself, the floods that occurred in the area often led to considerable material losses and posed a threat to the region's inhabitants. The thesis focuses on analyzing the causes, course, and effects of the floods, using available historical and environmental data, as well as the accounts of local residents. An interdisciplinary approach combining elements of geography, history, and sociology was employed, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of the flood phenomena during the analyzed period. A key source of data was the interviews conducted with residents of the Prądnik Valley, which provided valuable information regarding individual experiences related to the floods.
