Wybrane aspekty amerykańskiej literatury young adult od lat 60. XX wieku do lat 10. XXI wieku

Celem mojej pracy magisterskiej zatytuowanej Wybrane aspekty amerykańskiej literatury young adult od lat 60. XX wieku do lat 10. XXI wieku jest analiza kategorii literackiej young adult (YA) oraz ustalenie jakim uległa ona zmianom w okresie od lat 60. XX w. do lat 10. XXI w. oraz jak wydarzenia historyczne i tło kulturowe w Ameryce Północnej wpłynęły na fabuły przeznaczone dla młodzieży. Young Adult Library Services Association definiuje literaturę young adult jako książki, których bohaterowie mają od 12 do 18 lat. Głównymi tematami tej kategorii literackiej są stosunki międzyludzkie, znalezienie własnej tożsamości oraz dorastanie przedstawione jako część podróży emocjonalnej. Moje badanie oparłam na wybranych powieściach young adult wydanych od lat 60. XX w. do lat 10. XXI w. Zbadawszy odpowiednio problemy rasy i etniczności, stereotypów płciowych, orientacji seksualnej, kryzysu tożsamości, historiozofii i aksjologii byłam w stanie skonstruować obraz kategorii YA, która – ukształtowana przez socjoekonomiczną, polityczną i kulturową sytuację w Stanach Zjednoczonych – jest odzwierciedleniem amerykańskiej kultury młodzieżowej ostatniego półwiecza.

The aim of my dissertation titled Selected Aspects of American Young Adult Literature from the 1960s to the 2010s is to analyze the literary category of young adult (YA) novels and establish how it had changed since the 1960s to the 2010s and how historical events and cultural background in North America had influenced the YA narratives. Young Adult Library Services Association defines young adult novels as books whose main characters range from 12 to 18 years old. The main focus of this literary category are relationships, friendships, finding one’s identity and coming of age which is always accompanied by high emotional stakes. My research is based on the selection of YA novels published within between the 1960s and 2010s. By researching respectively the issues of race and ethnicity, gender stereotypes, sexual orientation, identity crisis, historiosophy, and axiology, I was able to devise a picture of the YA category which – shaped by the socioeconomic, political and cultural situation in the United States – is a reflection of the American young adult culture of the past half-century.
