Tematem oraz celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest omówienie symboliki i funkcji koncept axis mundi na terenie Mezoameryki. Praca zakłada kilka głównych tez pod kątem, których prowadzona była analiza prezentowanego tematu. Jednym z założeń przedstawionej pracy magisterskiej jest teza, że koncept axis mundi leży u podstaw różnych kultur rozwijających się na terenie Mezoameryki od Olmeków przez Majów aż do współczesności. Kolejna teza to założenie ze koncept axis mundi ewoluuje wraz ze zmianom kulturową. Zmienia się idea konceptu, funkcja, symbolika, ale podstawowe założenie, czyli schematyczne przedstawienie struktury świata pozostaje niezmienne. Równie istotną teza pracy jest założenie, że szamanizm leży u źródeł pierwotnych wierzeń i kultury Mezoameryki a koncept axis mundi wywodzi się właśnie z tych praktyk. Pierwszy rozdziel niniejszej pracy zakłada szczegółowe omówienie konceptu axis mundi z uwzględnieniem terminologii, jaką posłużono się w pracy. Rozdział ten podejmuje analizę struktury z podkreśleniem par binarnych opozycji konceptu oraz analizę symboliki konceptu axis mundi.Kolejny rozdział pracy dotyczy analizy wierzeń i praktyk szamanistycznych, jako tych konstytuujących wierzenia mezoamerykańskie. Ponadto drugi rozdział podejmuje analizę wierzeń i mitów kultur tj. Olmekowie, Majowie czy Aztekowie w celu wyodrębnienia struktury axis mundi odtwarzanej w tych wierzeniach. Trzeci rozdział pracy skupia się na przedstawieniu zagadnienia świętego krajobrazu na ternie Mezoameryki, jako kreowanej na wzór kosmosu (a tym samym struktury axis mundi) niszy ekologicznej. Rozdział podejmuje również tematykę roli mezoamerykańskiego władcy, jako personifikacji axis mundi. Końcowa części trzeciego rozdziału poświecona została przedstawieniu rytuałów związanych z i odtwarzających strukturę axis mundi. Całość pracy zamykają wnioski wynikające z analizy podjętego tematu.

The main thesis of the dissertations is the assumption that the concept of axis mundi lies at the very basis and constitutes Mesoamerican cultures. The unfolding pages of the thesis point out the most evident symbolic expressions of the concept of axis mundi functioning in the territory of Mesoamerica and analyse how this symbolism evolved. The dissertation presents the correlation of some Mesoamerican myths with the structure of axis mundi. Additionally, it advocates the claim that the Mesoamerican culture is strongly influenced with the idea of shamanism particularly visible in the role of Mesoamerican rulers who became shaman-kings. The first chapter of the dissertation concerns the discussion of the terminology used in the thesis. Additionally, this chapter is devoted to the analysis of the symbolism and structure of the concept of axis mundi stressing particularly its binary opposition based structure. The second chapter of the dissertation focuses on finding the relation of Mesoamerican religious beliefs with the concept of axis mundi. It also analyse the idea of shamanism as the rudimentary concept of the Mesaomerican system of beliefs. Furthermore, the thesis analyse Olmec, Maya and Aztec mythologies as the main media conveying the idea of axis mundi.The last, third chapter of the presented dissertation is entirely devoted to the presentation of Mesoamerican sacred landscape as the reflection of the religious believes based on the concept of axis mundi. It also attempts to present the person of Mesoamerican ruler as the shaman-king, performing functions of local shamans on state level. The end part of the third chapter presents some rituals related to and enacting the concept of axis mundi. The closing part of the dissertation is devoted to conclusions related to the subject of the thesis and to questions stated at the very beginning of the research.
