Tourism attractiveness of Turkey in the face of the terrorism threat

Głównym celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie wpływu utrzymującego się zagrożenia terrorystycznego na postrzeganie atrakcyjności turystycznej Turcji przez turystów. W części teoretycznej pracy poddano analizie skalę i dynamikę rozwoju sektora turystycznego Turcji w ujęciu krajowym i regionalnym, omówiono problematykę związku pomiędzy działalnością terrorystyczną a rynkiem usług turystycznych, a także przedstawiono źródła terroryzmu na obszarze Turcji i określono skalę tamtejszej działalności terrorystycznej. W kolejnej części pracy przedstawiono analizę wyników badań własnych. Dla potrzeb badań wykorzystano kwestionariusz ankiety, który został wypełniony przez 188 anonimowych respondentów, którzy w przeszłości odwiedzili Turcję. Celem ankiety było zweryfikowanie, czy pomimo zagrożenia terroryzmem Turcja stanowi atrakcyjną destynację turystyczną. Badania ujawniły, że turyści postrzegają Turcję jako atrakcyjną destynację turystyczną, która posiada elementy turystyczne istotnie ją odróżniające od innych miejsc docelowych. Ankietowani bardzo pozytywnie ocenili wszystkie elementy turystyki związane z pobytem w Turcji. Ponadto, podczas swojego pobytu podróżni czuli się bezpiecznie i nie mieli do czynienia z realnym zagrożeniem terrorystycznym. Działalność terrorystyczna nie wzbudziła u ankietowanych większych obaw przed wyjazdem, niemniej jednak w dalszym ciągu stanowiła jeden z czynników ograniczających komfort ich pobytu. W pracy wykorzystano artykuły z prasy branżowej, raporty, książki, publikacje, materiały konferencyjne oraz dokumenty elektroniczne.

The purpose of this thesis is to estimate the impact of terrorism on tourists’ perceptions of Turkey as attractive tourist destinations. The study contains the analysis of the scale and dynamics of Turkey's tourism industry development in terms of national and regional issues and examines the relationship between terrorism and the tourism sector. The sources of terrorism in Turkey and current scale of terrorism threat have also been determined. The next part of the thesis contains the analysis of the research results. A self-administrated survey was used as the research tool to collect data from 188 respondents who visited Turkey in the past. The main purpose of this survey was to investigate whether Turkey is an attractive tourist destination despite the threat of terrorism. The research results revealed that tourists perceive Turkey as an attractive tourist destination with variety of tourism products that help distinguish it from other destinations. In addition, during their stay in Turkey, travelers felt safe and did not face a real terrorist threat. The terrorist threat did not cause great concern for the respondents before their departure, however it was one of the factors that affected the atmosphere of their staying. The thesis includes the review of studies focused on the discussed issues, reports, books, conference materials and online publications.
