About love that doesn't have to be the only one to be true. Phenomenological-hermeneutical analysis of the experiences of polyamorous people

Niniejsza praca magisterska stanowi próbę opisu i zrozumienia doświadczeń osób poliamorycznych, czyli żyjących w wielu związkach miłosnych w tym samym czasie. W szczególności skupia się na odpowiedzi na pytania jak to jest kochać wiele osób w jednym czasie, jakie temu towarzyszą wyzwania, emocje i jak do tego doszło, że konsensualna niemonogamia stała się częścią życia osób badanych. W teoretycznej części pracy zostały opisane zagadnienia dotyczące fenomenu miłości. Począwszy od perspektywy neurobiologicznej, poprzez kontekst społeczno–kulturowy aż do ujęcia miłości w psychologii na przestrzeni dziesięcioleci. Następnie przedstawione zostały różne typy relacji konsensualnie niemonogamicznych w tym poliamoria. W ostatnim rozdziale części teoretycznej opisano różne składniki miłości takie jak intymność, zobowiązanie, zazdrość, namiętność i seks. W ramach badania przeprowadzono cztery wywiady częściowo ustrukturyzowane z osobami żyjącymi w wielu związkach miłosnych w jednym czasie. Wykorzystano technikę metodologii jakościowej – analizę fenomenologiczno–hermeneutyczną.

This thesis attempts to describe and understand the experiences of polyamorous people, living in multiple love relationships at the same time. It focuses particularly on answering the questions of what it is like to love many people at the same time, what challenges and emotions accompany this, and how it came about that consensual non–monogamy became part of the lives of the subjects. In the theoretical part of the work, the issues concerning the phenomenon of love are described. Starting from the neurobiological perspective, through the socio–cultural context to the depiction of love in psychology over the decades. Then the different types of consensually non–monogamous relationships including polyamory were presented. The final section of the theoretical part describes the various components of love such as intimacy, commitment, jealousy, passion and sex. The study included four semi–structured interviews with people living in multiple love relationships at one time. A qualitative methodology technique was used – phenomenological–hermeneutic analysis.
