From History to Archetype: Return, Exile and Migration in Selected Films of Theo Angelopoulos

The content of thesis are motifs of return, exile and migration in selected films of Theo Angelopoulos. The thesis constitute of two main parts – theoretical and analytical. First chapter concerns about the mutual relations between film and history, subsequently author explains basic concepts, which will be the key-words in the analysis. The next, analytical chapters are divided thematically into three sections: returns, exiles and migrations. Author is taking advantage of concepts descripted in the former, theoretical chapter, showing the elements of history, myth and collective memory which are present in the Theo Angelopoulo’s films.
Tematem pracy są motywy powrotu, wygnania i wędrówki w wybranych filmach Theo Angelopoulosa. Praca składa się z części teoretycznej i analitycznej. Pierwszy rozdział ma charakter teoretyczny, autor przywołuje w nim związki filmu i historii, w dalszej kolejności wyjaśnia podstawowe pojęcia, które będą kluczowe w analizie filmów. Kolejne trzy rozdziały mają charakter analityczny i dotyczą trzech tytułowych motywów: powrotu, wygnania i wędrówki. Autor, korzystając z przedstawionych w pierwszym rozdziale pojęć, przedstawia elementy historii, mitu i pamięci zbiorowej obecne w filmowych narracjach.
