Inflation and the dynamics of wages - analysis of correlations on the example of the polish economy

Tematem pracy licencjackiej jest współzależność inflacji oraz dynamiki płac w gospodarce narodowej na przykładzie gospodarki polskiej. Wybór takiego obszaru tematycznego podyktowany jest wysoką zmiennością obu zmiennych w Polsce w ostatnich latach, co może przekładać się między innymi na stabilność sektora finansowego. Rosnąca inflacja napędza żądania pracowników o wyższe płace, których wzrost może pociągać za sobą coraz wyższe ceny towarów i usług. W konsekwencji może dojść do niesprzyjającego gospodarce zjawiska jakim jest spirala cenowo – płacowa. Nadrzędnym celem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest wyjaśnienie powstałych kontrowersji pomiędzy stopą inflacji, a dynamiką wynagrodzeń oraz zbadanie stopnia ich zależności. W niniejszej pracy dogłębnie omówiono ogólną charakterystykę procesów inflacyjnych - opisano takie aspekty jak przyczyny i skutki inflacji, jej mierniki oraz przeciwdziałanie. Skupiono się również na teoretycznych zagadnieniach związanych ze współzależnością inflacji i wynagrodzeń, wyprowadzając przy tym równanie płac i cen oraz opisując teorię konfliktowej inflacji. Ponadto został zbadany wpływ poszczególnych zmiennych z równań płac i cen na analizowane wielkości. Z przeprowadzonej analizy wysunięto wniosek, iż poziom inflacji oraz poziom płac w Polsce w latach 1995 - 2020 miały na siebie wzajemny, dodatni i istotny statystycznie wpływ.

The subject of my bachelor thesis is the interdependence of inflation and the wage dynamics based on the data of the Polish economy. The choice of the theme is conditioned by the high volatility of both variables in Poland in recent years, which may further lead to the stability of the financial sector. Rising inflation is forcing workers' demands for higher wages, the increase in which in turn can lead to higher prices for goods and services. As a result, an unfavourable economic phenomenon may occur, such as the price-wage spiral. The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to explain the arising controversies between the inflation rate and the dynamics of wages and to examine the degree of their dependence.In my research the general characteristics of inflation processes are discussed in detail. For example, such aspects as the reasons and consequences of inflation, its measures, and countermeasures are described. The theoretical issues related to the interdependence of inflation and wages, deriving the equation of wages and prices, and the description of the theory of conflict inflation was emphasised. Moreover, the influence of particular variables from the equations of wages and prices on the analysed values was considered. The conducted analysis concluded that the level of inflation and the level of wages in Poland in the years 1995 - 2020 had a mutually positive and statistically significant influence.
