This work is an attempt to explore the history and contemporary situation of the goldsmith caste in India. The history of sophisticated, gold and silver ornaments in India dates back at least to the time of the Indus civilization. From the ancient times, behind the breathtaking ornaments was standing anonymous goldsmiths, about whose occupation we know relatively little. The aim of the study is to understand the situation of this occupational group in order to compare its former and contemporary position. Although the theme of traditional Indian jewelry is well researched, its creator seems to be ignored in specialist literature. Who is indian goldsmith, what does he believe, which techniques and tools does he use? Here are some of the questions that the following work is trying to answer. Craftsmen were and are a very important part of Indian society. Characteristic is the inheritance of the profession, which allows for the unique transmission of traditional techniques to new generations. Will the changes brought about by modernization allow for their further transmission?
