Ukrainian Social and Cultural Society in Poland (1956-1990). The activities of the society and its impact on the preservation of the identity of the Ukrainian minority in Poland.

Tematem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest Ukraińskie Towarzystwo Społeczno- Kulturalne w Polsce (1956-1990). Działalność towarzystwa oraz jego wpływ na zachowanie tożsamości mniejszości ukraińskiej w Polsce. Praca składa się z dwóch głównych części: w pierwszej poruszono problem przesiedlenia 150 tys. Ukraińców w ramach Akcji „Wisła”, związaną z tym kwestię licznej mniejszości ukraińskiej w Polsce i potrzebę powstania Ukraińskiego Towarzystwa Społeczno-Kulturalnego. Druga część dotyczy struktury i działalności UTSK. Celem pracy jest analiza UTSK i głównych kierunków jego działalności, a w szczególności: edukacyjno-kulturalnej i artystycznej. Utworzenie Towarzystwa odegrało bardzo ważną rolę w życiu Ukraińców, którzy zostali wysiedleni z ziem ojczystych podczas powojennych przesiedleń, a mianowicie Akcji „Wisła” (1947 r). UTSK łączyło polskich Ukraińców, poprzez rozwój szkół z ukraińskim językiem nauczania, kół artystycznych i festiwali kultury ukraińskiej. I dzięki temu Ukraińcy jako grupa narodowa nie zniknęli. W pracy ujawniono przesłanki i warunki powstania UTSK w Polsce, a także życie Ukraińców w kontekście UTSK. Praca została napisana na podstawie badań historycznych, informacji dostępnych w Internecie, dokumentów archiwalnych, a także kwerendy przeprowadzonej w zasobach archiwalnych tygodnika „Nasze Słowo”, który był organem prasowym UTSK.

The subject of this undergraduate thesis is the Ukrainian Social and Cultural Society in Poland (1956-1990). The activities of the society and its impact on preserving the identity of the Ukrainian minority in Poland. The work consists of two main parts: the first deals with the problem of the resettlement of 150,000 Ukrainians as part of Operation "Visla," the related issue of a large Ukrainian minority in Poland and the need for a Ukrainian Social and Cultural Society. The second part deals with the structure and activities of the USCT. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the USCS and the main directions of its activities, in particular: educational-cultural and artistic. The establishment of the Society played a very important role in the lives of Ukrainians who were displaced from their native lands during the post-war resettlements, namely Operation "Visla" (1947). The USCS united Polish Ukrainians, through the development of schools with the Ukrainian language of instruction, art circles and festivals of Ukrainian culture. And thanks to this, Ukrainians as a national group did not disappear. The paper reveals the rationale and conditions for the establishment of the USCS in Poland, as well as the lives of Ukrainians in the context of the USCS. The paper was written on the basis of historical research, information available on the Internet, archival documents, as well as a search conducted in the archival resources of the weekly newspaper "Nashe Slovo," which was the press organ of the USCS.
