LITERATURA POSTKOLONIALNA W SINGAPURZE: ANALIZA POWIEŚCI SUCHEN CHRISTINE LIM FISTFUL OF COLOURS

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza powieści Fistful of Colours singapurskiej pisarki Suchen Christine Lim, ze szczególnym naciskiem na najbardziej powszechne zagadnienia poruszane w literaturze postkolonialnej Azji Południowo-Wschodniej. Podjęłam próbę zidentyfikowania elementów, które wpisują ten utwór do dyskursu postkolonialnego oraz podkreślenia cech, które czynią to dzieło powieścią singapurską. Wybrane aspekty teorii postkolonialnej, takie jak hybrydyczność, alienacja, rekonstrukcja kolonialnego języka, tożsamość etniczna oraz narodowa stanowią bazę mojej analizy. W pracy staram się również przybliżyć realia historyczne oraz kulturowe Singapuru, jednocześnie przedstawiając ich zależność z twórczością literacką tego kraju.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze Suchen Christine Lim’s novel Fistful of Colours with focus on the most common issues addressed in the post-colonial literature of Southeast Asia. I attempt to identify the features that make this novel a post-colonial piece of writing as well as to highlight the factors that make the novel primarily Singaporean. Selected aspects of the post-colonial theory such as hybridity, displacement, appropriation of colonial language, the idea of national and ethnic identity provide basis for the analysis. It is an attempt to identify the aspects of Singaporean history and culture that had influence on the literary production of the country.
