Osteoporoza jest chorobą układu kostnego, która cechuje się zmniejszeniem masy kostnej oraz zaburzeniami jej mikroarchitektury. Początkowo ma przebieg bezobjawowy, a jej pierwszym objawem są najczęściej złamania kości.Zaliczana jest do chorób cywilizacyjnych i jest problemem nie tylko medycznym, ale również społecznym i ekonomicznym. Niepokojący jest fakt, iż liczba zachorowań ciągle wzrasta, co wiąże się z wydłużaniem średniej długości życia oraz zmianą stylu życia.W pracy przedstawiono dane dotyczące osteoporozy, na które składają się definicja, epidemiologia, czynniki ryzyka, diagnostyka, objawy, profilaktyka, leczenie oraz rehabilitacja. Pozwolą one na dokładne zrozumienie istoty choroby.Celem pracy było opracowanie modelu opieki nad pacjentem chorym na osteoporozę, w związku z tym zredagowano 17 problemów i interwencji pielęgniarskich, które pomogą w lepszym sprawowaniu opieki nad chorym na to schorzenie i w konsekwencji doprowadzą do polepszenia jakości jego życia.

Osteoporosis is a disease of bone structure in which the bone mineral density is reduced and its microarchitecture is disturbed. At the beginning, osteoporosis is asymptomatic. However, its first and most important symptoms are the fractures.Osteoporosis is classified as civilisation disease and is acknowledged not only as the medical problem but social and economic as well. It seems to be alarming that the amount of people who are taken ill of osteoporosis still increases. It influences the average life expectancy and lifestyle.In my thesis I present the information about osteoporosis such as the definition, epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis, symptoms, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. These definitions will help to understand the most important aspects and the essence of osteoporosis.The main goal of my thesis was to make an elaboration of care model for a patient who suffers from osteoporosis. In order to make it, it was necessary to formulate 17 problems and nursing interventions which help for the better care and as a result the improvement of living quality.
