History in disinformation narratives in the Polish infosphere in the first quarter of 2025

Poniższa praca magisterska skupia się na analizie przekazów dezinformacyjnych w treściach dotyczących historii. Stara się ona stworzyć metodologiczne podstawy do badania dezinformacji. Analizie poddano treści pochodzące z portali internetowych: Interia, Wirtualna Polska, Onet, Dzieje.pl, Histmag oraz Ciekawostki historyczne. Łącznie pry użyciu metody analizy treści przeanalizowano 428 tekstów, z czego 19 skategoryzowano jako zawierające znamiona dezinformacji. Tak sklasyfikowane teksty poddano pogłębionej analizie zawartości. Połączenie obu metodologii pozwoliło dojść do ogólnych wniosków dotyczących metod używania dezinformacji w treściach o tematyce historycznej, wskazując na trzy takie metody. Fałszywe informację, niepełny kontekst oraz wymieszanie hipotez z faktami. Równocześnie badanie wykazało ograniczenia stosowanej metody, takie jak zbyt mocno oparta na subiektywnej decyzji badacza granica pomiędzy dezinformacją a nacechowaniem emocjonalnym treści. Zwrócono więc uwagę na potrzebę skonstruowania skuteczniejszej metodologii badawczej stosowanej przy analizie dezinformacji a także doprecyzowania definicji, które w obecnej formie nie są wystarczająco precyzyjne.

This master’s thesis focuses on the analysis of disinformation in historical content. It seeks to establish a methodological framework for the study of disinformation. The analysis covered content sourced from the following websites: Interia, Wirtualna Polska, Onet, Dzieje.pl, Histmag and Ciekawostki historyczne. In total, 428 texts were analysed using content analysis, of which 19 were categorised as containing signs of disinformation. The texts classified in this way were subjected to an in-depth content analysis. Combining both methodologies enabled general conclusions to be drawn regarding the methods used to spread disinformation in historical content, identifying three such methods. False information, incomplete context, and the conflation of hypotheses with facts. At the same time, the study revealed limitations of the method used, such as the distinction between disinformation and the emotional nature of the content being overly reliant on the researcher’s subjective judgement. Attention was therefore drawn to the need to develop a more effective research methodology for analysing disinformation, as well as to refine the definitions, which in their current form are not sufficiently precise.
