Imagizm Ezry Pounda w polskich przekładach Leszka Engelkinga i Jerzego Niemojowskiego – analiza z perspektywy językoznawstwa kognitywnego

Niniejsza praca magisterska stanowi analizę porównawczą tłumaczenia z perspektywy językoznawstwa kognitywnego. Przedmiotem analizy są tłumaczenia Leszka Engelkinga oraz Jerzego Niemojowskiego, podczas gdy tekst źródłowy to wybrane wiersze Ezry Pounda. Praca ta wykorzystuje zbieżności między zasadami leżącymi u podstaw Imagizmu oraz założeniami językoznawstwa kognitywnego, tj. wykorzystaniem terminu „image” oraz poleganie na mentalnych obrazach, które kształtują konkretne wybory językowe autora. Narzędzia oferowane przez językoznawstwo kognitywne pozwalają na dokładną analizę językową tekstu oraz porównanie mentalnych obrazów, powstałych w każdym z tłumaczeń. Ekwiwalencja na poziomie obrazowania jest więc podstawowym kryterium przyjętym w opisie i ocenie tłumaczeń. Głównym celem pracy jest podkreślenie, iż poezja Imagistów stanowi niezwykle stosowny obiekt badań z punktu widzenia językoznawstwa kognitywnego, oraz zaprezentowanie użyteczności tego paradygmatu do szeroko pojętej analizy tłumaczenia.

The present MA thesis is a comparative analysis of translation from the cognitive linguistics point of view. The object of the analysis are translations by Leszek Engelking and Jerzy Niemojowski with the source text being a selection of Ezra Pound’s poems. The study uses as leverage the concurrences in the rules underlying the poetic movement of Imagism with the paradigm of cognitive linguistics, namely the use of the term “image” and the reliance on mental projections that arise from the particular linguistic choices of the poet. The cognitive linguistic tools allow a minuscule linguistic analysis of the texts and the comparison of mental images that emerge from each translation. The equivalence of images is the criteria taken into consideration when describing and assessing the translations. The main goal of this MA thesis is thus to emphasize the suitability of the Imagist poetry, due to the importance of its visual aspects, for the cognitive linguistic analysis and to present the usefulness of the cognitive linguistic approach in the study of literary translation in general.
