Savoir-vivre on selected novels by Chrétien de Troyes

Celem badawczym niniejszej pracy jest analiza idei savoir-vivre’u wpisanej w cztery powieści arturiańskie autorstwa wybitnego dwunastowiecznego pisarza Chrétiena de Troyes: Erek i Enida, Lancelot czyli rycerz z wózka, Iwen czyli rycerz z lwem i Percewal z Walii czyli opowieść o Graalu. Na podstawie badanych tekstów zostały omówione normy i zwyczaje postępowania arystokratycznej społeczności średniowiecznej, które znalazły w nich swoje odzwierciedlenie. Praca składa się z pięciu rozdziałów, traktujących kolejno o umiejętności komunikowania się, umiejętności kochania, umiejętności walki, umiejętności ubierania się i umiejętności zachowania się przy stole. Chrétien de Troyes opisuje w swoich powieściach historie fikcyjne, wplatając w nie reguły zachowania dobrze znane ówczesnym odbiorcom jego tekstów. W mojej pracy poddałam je kodyfikacji i interpretacji, zarówno z punktu widzenia organizacji świata przedstawionego, jak i przesłania etycznego, które w sobie kryją.

The purpose of this research is to analyse the idea of savoir-vivre inscribed in four arthurian novels by the outstanding twelfth-century writer Chrétien de Troyes : Erec and Enide, Lancelot, Yvain and Perceval. On the basis of the studied texts, norms and habits of the behaviours of the aristocratic medieval community were discussed, which were reflected in mentioned texts. The work consists of five chapters: the ability to communicate, the ability to love, the ability to fight, the ability to dress and the ability to eat: a meal. Chrétien de Troyes describes fictional stories in his novels, incorporating into them the rules of behaviours well known to the contemporary recipients of his texts. In my work, I codified and interpreted them, both from the point of view of the organization of the depicted world and the ethical message that they contain.

L’objectif de recherche de ce mémoire est l’analyse de l’idée du savoir-vivre inscrite dans les quatre romans arthuriens d’un auteur champenois du XIIe siècle, Chrétien de Troyes : Erec et Enide, Le Chevalier de la Charrette ou le Roman de Lancelot, Le Chevalier au lion (Yvain) et Le conte du Graal ou le Roman de Perceval. C’est sur la base de ces textes que les normes et les coutumes reflétant la réalité de la classe noble du Moyen Âge ont été déterminées et analysées. Le mémoire se compose de cinq chapitres : « Savoir communiquer », « Savoir aimer », « Savoir se battre », « Savoir s’habiller » et « Savoir se comporter à table : le repas ». Dans ses romans, Chrétien de Troyes présente les histoires fictives et souvent irréelles qui reflètent cependant des règles du savoir-vivre réel et typique de l’époque étudiée. Je les ai soumises à la codification et à l’interprétation du point de vue de l’organisation du monde représenté mais aussi du message éthique dont le texte est porteur.
