Characteristics of journalistic satire based on selected programs of American television artists

Tematem tej pracy magisterskiej jest satyra dziennikarska analizowana na przykładzie działalności amerykańskich twórców telewizyjnych. Praca bada relację pomiędzy satyrą a dziennikarstwem, starając się wskazać charakterystyczne cechy wcześniej wspominanego zagadnienia łączącego obydwie te kategorie. Zawiera ona w sobie analizę wybranej twórczości dwóch popularnych w Stanach Zjednoczonych satyryków - Johna Olivera i Sashy Baron Cohena - na którą składają się trzy formaty telewizyjne oraz jeden film. Praca składa się z teoretycznej charakterystyki satyry i twórczości rzeczonych satyryków oraz analizy przykładów ich działalności. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na metody używane przez twórców oraz wpływ, jaki ich twórczość ma na rzeczywistość polityczną Amerykanów. Większość opisywanych materiałów związanych jest z okresem prezydentury Donalda Trumpa. W ramach tej pracy analizowano literaturę przedmiotu oraz wybrane materiały audiowizualne.

The subject of this master's thesis is journalistic satire analyzed in the context of the creativity of American television artists. It examines the relationship between satire and journalism, trying to identify the characteristic features of the previously mentioned issue that combines these two categories. It contains an analysis of chosen work of two popular satirists in the United States - John Oliver and Sasha Baron Cohen - which includes three television formats and one film. The thesis consists of the theoretical characterization of satire and the work of the said satirists, and the analysis of selected examples of their activity. Particular attention has been paid to the methods they use in practicing satire and the influence their creativity has on the political reality of Americans. Most of the materials described are related to the presidency of Donald Trump. As part of this work, the literature on the subject and selected audiovisual materials were analyzed.
