article
The chapter examines the semantic frame for magˇd/‘glory’ in the language of Early Arabic Poetry, aiming to define metaphoric mappings that used to encode its content. It presents the conceptual metaphors instantiated by fillers of the frame elements, discussing their place within schematic hierarchies and their consequent derivation from abstract primary metaphors. The aim of the discussion is to identify pre-Islamic Arabic mappings as deriving from more universal experiential bases (i. e., primary scenes), as well as to determine the level of cultural specificity of the analyzed metaphors.
