Theaters in Cracow’s urban space

Teatr może być rozumiany na wiele sposobów, tak samo jak wiele jest jego definicji. Jest to również zależne od lokalizacji, w jakiej prowadzi swoją działalność. Kraków jest miastem kultury i sztuki. Tym samym jest prężnie rozwijającym się ośrodkiem teatralnym a w jego granicach istnieje wiele teatrów różnego typu, zajmujących się zróżnicowanym repertuarem. Celem pracy jest zbadanie czynników i uwarunkowań lokalizacji teatrów w przestrzeni miejskiej stolicy Małopolski. Przedstawione zostaną również funkcje owych teatrów jak i miejsca w jakich działają, w tym miejsca nieteatralne.

Theater can be understood in many ways, just as there are many definitions of it. It also depends on the location in which it operates. Krakow is a city of culture and art. Thus, it is a thriving theatrical center and within its borders there are many theaters of various types, dealing with a diverse repertoire. The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors and determinants of the location of theaters in the urban space of the capital of Malopolska. The functions of these theaters will also be presented, as well as the places in which they operate, including non-theatrical places.
