Interdependence in a romantic relationship and preferences for partner's qualities in terms of communion and agency

Celem prezentowanego badania było poznanie cech ważnych dla ludzi u aktualnego partnera związku długoterminowego. Cechy rozpatrywane były w kontekście teorii dwóch głównych wymiarów spostrzegania społecznego - wspólnotowości i sprawczości. Głównym problemem, na którym się skupiono był wpływ wzajemnej zależności partnerów na cenione przez nich cechy drugiej połówki. Ważność cech partnera mierzona była za pomocą zmodyfikowanych na użytek badania Skal Sprawczości i Wspólnotowości autorstwa B. Wojciszke i M.Szlendak (2010), natomiast do pomiaru współzależności partnerów wykorzystano autorski kwestionariusz. Pomysł, jakoby współzależność mogła mieć znaczenie w odniesieniu do oceny partnera, zrodził się pod wpływem badań porównujących relację przyjacielską i koleżeńską, różniących się wzajemną zależnością jej członków, w których wykryto moderujący wpływ tej zmiennej na ocenę cech sprawczych (Abele, Wojciszke, 2007). Efekt ten pojawił się także w niniejszym badaniu, w którym dowiedziono, że cechy sprawcze są wyżej cenione przez partnerów bardziej współzależnych, niż mniej współzależnych. W badaniach uzyskano także istotny wynik świadczący o tym, że cechami bardziej cenionymi u partnera w ogóle, są te reprezentujące wspólnotowość, co potwierdza tezę mówiąca o prymacie wspólnotowości w ocenie innych, także w odniesieniu do partnera związku romantycznego.

The aim of the study was to learn about qualities important to people in long-term relationships. Qualities were considered in the context of the theory of two basic dimensions for describing and judging people - agency and communion. The main goal was to assess whether interdependence affects qualities we value in a partner. The importance of the partner’s qualities was measured by means of B. Wojciszke and M. Szlendak (2010) Scales of Agency and Communion modified for the use of the experiment, while the author's questionnaire was used to measure the interdependence of the partners. The idea that interdependence is important for the evaluation of a partner was drawn from the research conducted by Abele and Wojciszke (2007). In this study, authors comparing relationships differing in the level of interdependence of its members, proved impact of this variable on thevalued agency qualities. This effect also appeared in this study, which proved that agency qualities are valued more by more interdependent than less interdependent relationships. The study also showed that the traits representing the community are more valued in a partner in general, which confirms the thesis that the primacy of communion in the assessment of others.
