From Hunter S. Thompson to Ziemowit Szczerek. Gonzo reportage - a study of the history of the subspecies

Niniejsza praca dyplomowa jest próbą charakterystyki natury, genezy, rozwoju i przyszłości najbardziej kontrowersyjnego podgatunku reportażu, jakim jest reportaż gonzo. Badania zostały przeprowadzone w oparciu o życie i twórczość pioniera omawianego nurtu, ikony kontrkultury lat 60. – Huntera S. Thompsona – oraz innych twórców światowych i polskich. Praca zawiera rodowód reportażu - począwszy od czasów starożytnych, przez powstanie Nowego Dziennikarstwa, aż po narodziny reportażu gonzo – a także krótką teorię reportażu. Szczyt popularności zapoczątkowanego w USA stylu gonzo przypada na lata 60. i 70. Analizowany gatunek po dziś dzień znajduje swoje kolejne twórcze kontynuacje. W pracy wykazano także istotne różnice między klasycznym reportażem a reportażem gonzo oraz podjęto próbę prognostyki przyszłych możliwych kierunków rozwoju.

This diploma thesis is an attempt to characterize the nature, genesis, development and future of the most controversial subgenre of reportage, which is gonzo reportage. The research was carried out on the basis of the life and work of the pioneer of the trend in question, the icon of the 1960s counterculture - Hunter S. Thompson - and other Polish and world artists. The work contains the pedigree of reportage - from ancient times, through the emergence of New Journalism, to the birth of gonzo reportage - as well as a short theory of reportage. The peak of popularity of the gonzo style started in the USA was in the 1960s and 1970s. The analyzed genre finds its next creative continuation to this day. The work also showed significant differences between classic reportage and gonzo reportage, and an attempt was made to predict possible future development directions.
