David Cronenberg and Posthumanism in American Cinema

Rozwój nauki oraz technologii, który trwa od zawsze, nie pozostaje obojętny wobec człowieka i społeczeństwa. Transhumanizm i posthumanizm to pojęcia, które są bezpośrednio związane z postępem nauki i tym samym postulują coraz większe poznanie. Próba stworzenia idealnego świata (w tym człowieka) to w gruncie rzeczy bardzo szlachetny cel, aczkolwiek warto zwrócić uwagę na problematykę posthumanizmu w kontekście jej szkodliwości dla człowieka. Rozwój czasami może paradoksalnie cofnąć nas w rozwoju, bowiem skutków niektórych wynalazków oraz eksperymentów nie można przewidzieć w stu procentach. Celem pracy jest zatem ukazanie rozwoju nauki oraz technologii jako zjawiska bardzo szkodliwego dla człowieka. Twórczość Davida Cronenberga jest idealnym przykładem sceptycznego podejścia do tematu integracji i ciągłego obcowania człowieka z techniką, niemniej w pracy znajduje się również wiele odniesień do dzieł innych twórców powielających problematykę rozwoju technologii. Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały. W pierwszej części znajduje się opis ideologii trans- i posthumanizmu. Drugi rozdział to analiza twórczości Davida Cronenberga oraz innych twórców pod kątem problematyki posthumanizmu, natomiast trzecia część pracy to podsumowanie dwóch wcześniejszych rozdziałów oraz próba potwierdzenia na wymienionych wcześniej przykładach, że rozwój społeczny, naukowy i technologiczny jest często bardzo szkodliwy dla człowieka.

Development of science and technology for ages has not remained indifferent to the man and its society. Transhumanism and posthumanism are the concepts that are directly related to the progress of science and therefore increasingly demand overall comprehension. An attempt to create an ideal world (including a perfect human being) are in fact a very noble goal, but it's worth to look closer to the issues of posthumanism in the context of its toxicity to humans. The development sometimes itself can paradoxically move us back in our progress, because the results of some inventions or experiments can not always be fully predicted. The aim of this work is therefore to demonstrate the development of science and technology as a phenomenon which might be very harmful to men. The work of David Cronenberg is a perfect example of a skeptical approach to the topic of integration and permanent intercourse of a man and technology, but this work has also many other threads and references to the works of various authors coinciding the same issues of technology development. The work was divided into three chapters. The first part is a description of the ideology of trans- and posthumanism. The second chapter is a full analysis of works of David Cronenberg and other creators featuring various issues of posthumanism. The third part of the work is a summary of two previous chapters and an attempt to prove with all previous examples that social development, science and technology could often be harmful to human beings.
