Internet mediation strategies used by parents of adolescents and their connection with family communication patterns

Poniższa praca eksploruje temat strategii rodzicielskich stosowanych przez rodziców młodzieży oraz panujących w rodzinach stylów komunikacji. Strategie te podzielone są tu na 4 kategorie: mediacji instruktywnych, restrykcyjnych, monitorowania i zaufania. Natomiast style komunikacji w rodzinie podzielone są na dwie płaszczyzny: orientację na konwersację oraz orientację na konformizm. Pytania oraz hipotezy badawcze dotyczą zależności pomiędzy stosowaniem poszczególnych form mediacji rodzicielskich a: 1) wiekiem dziecka, 2) właściwościami demograficznymi rodzica/opiekuna 3) stylami komunikacji w rodzinie, oraz 4) liczbą urządzeń z dostępem do Internetu, z których korzysta dziecko. Z przedstawionych badań wynika, iż wiek dziecka istotnie koreluje z częstością stosowanych mediacji rodzicielskich (instruktywnych, restrykcyjnych i zaufania). Badania ukazują również brak znaczenia wiekości rodziny (ilości rodziców/opiekunów) w odniesieniu do stosowanych strategii. Przedstawione wyniki pokazują jednocześnie, iż deklarowane kompetencje rodzica/opiekuna w zakresie korzystania z Internetu mają duże znaczenie w odniesieniu do stosowanych przez nich strategii mediacji instruktywnych, restrykcyjnych i zaufania.

The following work explores the theme of parental strategies of Internet mediation and family communication patterns. The mediation strategies are divided here into: instructive, restrictive, monitoring and deference mediation. The Communication Family Patterns are divided here into 2 dimensions: Conversation Orientation and Conformity Orientation. Questions and research hypotheses concern the relationship between the use of individual forms of parental mediation and: 1) the age of the child; 2) the demographic characteristics of the parent/guardian; 3) the family communication patterns, and 4) the number of devices with access to the Internet. The study shows: the age of the child correlates with the frequency of parental mediations used (instructive, restrictive and deference); the lack of importance of the family size (parents) in relation to the strategies used. The results revealed that the declared parent competence in using the Internet is of great importance for their instructive, restrictive and deference mediation strategies.
