Communication and cooperation : German theatre collectives

Artykuł jest próbą określenia specyfiki niemieckich kolektywów teatralnych, wskazania historycznych źródeł tego fenomenu (eksperymenty awangardy, "sztuka ucząca" Bertolta Brechta, metody dydaktyczne praktykowane w Instytucie Teatrologii Stosowanej w Giessen) oraz ukazania podobieństw i różnic pomiędzy najważniejszymi współczesnymi grupami pracującymi kolektywnie. Na przykładzie projektów artystycznych i wypowiedzi programowych Rimini Protokoll, Gob Squad, She She Pop oraz andcompany&Co analizowane są reguły i metody pracy, forma i tematyka przedstawień a także relacje pomiędzy artystkami i artystami oraz publicznością. "Bezwzględna zespołowość" i odrzucenie instytucjonalnej hierarchiczności stanowią narzędzia służące tworzeniu możliwie etycznego i politycznego teatru.

The article attempts to define the specificity of German theatre collectives, to indicate the historical sources of this phenomenon (avantgarde experiments, Bertolt Brecht’s ‘learning-plays,’ the didactic methods practised at the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen) and to highlight similarities and differences between the most important contemporary groups that work collectively. Drawing on the examples of the artistic projects and programme statements of Rimini Protokoll, Gob Squad, She She Pop and andcompany&Co, the rules and methods of work, the form and subject matter of the performances, as well as the relations between the artists and the audience, are analysed. ‘Absolute teamwork’ and the rejection of institutional hierarchy are tools allowing for the creation of ethical and political theatre.
