Article I of the GATT introduced the possibilities to grant trade preferences to the ad-vantage of former colonies and overseas territories. Because of mathematical reasons they weren't much worth. Some of them were replaced as a consequence of political events. Most of the preferences had to be eliminated because of regional trade agree-ments (RTAs) conclusion. The paper analyses the mathematical consequences of double participation in RTA and historical preferential arrangement, showing the causes of rapid destruction of this second type of preferences in first years of states cooperation within the GATT agreement.
