Memy jako pojęcie kulturowe oraz ich wpływ na rozwój współczesnego języka

Memy internetowe stały się istotnym fenomenem w świecie komunikacji międzykulturowej i są mocno zakorzenione w historii Internetu. Na przestrzeni lat rozwinęły się różne rodzaje memów, w zależności od ich pochodzenia, formy, treści, tematyki, sposobu przekazywania informacji, rodzaju humoru czy grupy docelowej. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie socjolingwistycznych cech zjawiska memów oraz ich wpływu na współczesny język, w szczególności angielski i polski. Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały i zawiera szereg ilustracji przedstawiających szeroką gamę różnorodnych form memów, wraz z wyszczególnieniem charakterystycznych cech użycia języka w nich. W pierwszym rozdziale koncentruję się na historii memów i ich ewolucji, a także na tym, co właściwie możemy nazwać „memem”. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest strukturze, różnym typom i językowi memów. W rozdziale trzecim poruszam kwestie globalizacji, języka angielskiego jako lingua franca, memów jako skutecznych form nauki języków obcych oraz popularyzacji skrótów, zapożyczeń i kalk językowych dzięki memom. Na końcu znajduje się moja autorska analiza wybranych typów memów: popularnych szablonów i makr obrazkowych, memów pandemicznych, memów polityczno-religijnych oraz polskiej sceny memicznej (stan na 2023 rok).

Internet memes have become an important phenomenon in the world of cross-cultural communication and are firmly rooted in the history of the Internet. Throughout the years, different types of memes have thrived, depending on their origin, form, content, subject matter, way of conveying information, type of humour or target group. The purpose of this paper is to study the sociolinguistic features of the phenomenon of memes and their impact on modern language, English and Polish in particular. The thesis is divided into three chapters and includes a number of illustrations depicting a wide range of meme forms, with details of the distinctive features of language use in them. In the first chapter, I focus on the history of memes and their evolution, as well as what we can actually call a “meme”. The second chapter is devoted to the structure, the different types and language of memes. In the third chapter, I address the issues of globalisation, English as a lingua franca, memes as effective forms of language learning, and the popularisation of abbreviations, borrowings and loan translations thanks to memes. Finally, there is my own analysis of selected types of memes: popular templates and image macros, pandemic memes, political-religious memes and the Polish meme scene (as of 2023).
