Egalitarian attitudes as a subject of sociology research

Artykuł dotyczy analizy postaw egalitarnych z punktu widzenia klasycznej teorii postaw oraz teorii postaw jako tymczasowych konstruktów, odnosząc się przy tym do tradycji i wyników polskich badań nad egalitaryzmem. Tym samym próbuje się rozstrzygnąć, czy postawy egalitarne są względnie trwałymi konstruktami, czy też konstruowane są in statu nascendi podczas badania sondażowego. Autor wskazuje na różnice intencji poznawczych badaczy egalitaryzmu społeczeństwa polskiego wyrażone w terminologii opisującej stosunek do nierówności społecznych. Końcowym akcentem jest rozróżnienie postaw roszczeniowych, egalitarnych i merytokratycznych. W artykule nacisk położony jest przede wszystkim na postulaty egalitaryzacji podziału dóbr materialnych.

The article explores egalitarian attitudes from the standpoint of the classical attitude theory and the theory of attitudes as temporary constructs, while drawing on the tradition and results of Polish research on egalitarianism. Therefore, the aim is to determine whether egalitarian attitudes are relatively permanent constructs or whether they are constructed in statu nascendi during survey research. The article highlights differences with respect to cognitive intentions of scholars studying egalitarianism of the Polish society as expressed in the terminology employed to describe the attitude to social inequalities. In the final remarks a distinction is drawn between demanding, egalitarian and meritocratic attitudes. The article focuses primarily on demands for equalizing the distribution of material resources.
