The Legacy of the Atomic Bomb. The experiences of the nuclear attacks in personal documentary literature of the citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Użycie broni nuklearnej przeciwko Hiroszimie i Nagasaki jest jednym z najważniejszych wydarzeń w historii ludzkości, a jednak pod wieloma względami jego konsekwencje pozostają nieznane społeczeństwu. Niniejsza rozprawa krytycznie analizuje uzasadnienia decyzji o wykorzystaniu bomb atomowych i przybliża krótko- i długoterminowe skutki wydarzeń z 6 i 9 sierpnia 1945 roku. Praca opiera się na doświadczeniach hibakusha – osób, które przeżyły ataki nuklearne i zaoferowały światu swoje wspomnienia jako źródło wiedzy o realiach przegrywania wojny. Wykorzystanie ich historii ma również na celu uchronienie je od zapomnienia.

The use of nuclear weapons against Hiroshima and Nagasaki is one of the most important events in human history, yet in many ways its consequences remain unknown to the public. This dissertation critically analyses the justifications for the decision to use atomic bombs and gives an insight into the short- and long-term consequences of the events of 6 and 9 August 1945. The work draws on the experiences of the hibakusha - survivors of the nuclear attacks who offered their memories to the world as a resource for understanding the realities of losing a war. The use of their stories also aims to keep them from being forgotten.
