Image of youth based on the magazine "Na Przełaj" 1988 - 1991

Przełom lat 80/90 XX wieku jest okresem bardzo ciekawym historycznie, zwłaszcza dla osób, które nie żyły w ówczesnej rzeczywistości. Dynamika zmian politycznych jak i społecznych była ogromna, zarówno dorośli jak i młodzi ludzie musieli stawić czoła nieznanemu - nowej rzeczywistości. Młodzież tego okresu została postawiona przed zadaniem wyjątkowo trudnym. Dorastali w jednej rzeczywistości, a w drugiej musieli stać się dorosłymi ludźmi i podjąć samodzielne życie z niedostatkami, które przecież ciągle miały miejsce. W niniejszej pracy chcę zadać pytania - jak wyglądał świat ówczesnej młodzieży i ich najbliższych, jakie mieli marzenia, co ich motywowało do działania, a co wywoływało frustrację; jak spędzali wolny czas i czy polityka miała wpływ na ich życie. Źródłem odpowiedzi na powyższe pytania wybrałam czasopismo młodzieżowe „Na Przełaj”. Analiza 158 numerów czasopisma wydanych w okresie 1988 – 1991 pozwoli na zaprezentowanie tematyki związanej z życiem młodzieży na przełomie lat 80/90 oraz pozwoli udzielić odpowiedzi na postawione problemy badawcze.

The turn of the 80s and 90s is historically a very interesting era, especially for people who are too young to have lived in this reality. The dynamics of both, political and social changes, were overwhelming. Adults as well as teenager and kids had to confront the unknown, the completely new world. The young people of the time had an especially difficult challenge ahead -they had been growing up in one reality and then had to live their adult life in a different one, filled with new risks and problems. In my thesis I wanted to ask following questions: what was the world of teenagers and their relatives like during this time, what kind of dreams they had, what motivated them to take action, what made them frustrated; how they spent their free time and finally, I wanted to find out if the politics had a big influence on their everyday life. In order to find the answers I used as my source a Polish teenage magazine that was being published during these years called "Na Przełaj". The analysis of 185 editions published between 1988 and 1991 let me show in detail the reality of the teenage life in this time and made it possible to answer the questions stated above.
