Urodziny Stanleya Harolda Pintera i Tango Sławomira Mrożka - motyw buntu

Niniejsza praca bada zagadnienie buntu na podstawie dramatu Harold Pintera pod tytułem Urodziny Stanleya, wydanego po raz pierwszy w 1960 roku, oraz Tanga autorstwa Sławomira Mrożka, które z kolei ukazało się cztery lata później, w 1964 roku. Obie sztuki zaliczano do nowego nurtu w dramacie znanego jako Teatr Absurdu, który powstał tuż po II wojnie światowej, do którego należeć mieli de facto w żaden sposób niezrzeszeni ze sobą dramatopisarze. Głównym celem pracy jest analiza różnych form nonkonformizmu biorąc pod uwagę stosunek bohaterów zarówno do społeczeństwa, jak i świata przedstawionego. Ponadto szczegółowo omawiany jest wpływ kobiet na działania głównych bohaterów oraz motywy i konsekwencje buntu tych postaci. Co najważniejsze, praca jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy bunt w Teatrze Absurdu ma jakikolwiek sens.

The thesis investigates the motif of rebellion on the basis of two plays, Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party published for the first time in 1960, and Tango by Sławomir Mrożek which appeared four years later, in 1964. Both plays were classified as those which belong to the new, post-war theatrical trend known as the Theatre of the Absurd which, in fact, was not any organized movement of playwrights. The main focus of the thesis is on different forms of the characters’ revolt including their attitude towards both society and the world which they are surrounded with. What is more, the women’s contribution to the protagonists’ actions and the characters’ motivations behind their revolution and its consequences come under careful scrutiny as well. Last but not least, the study is to answer the question whether rebellion makes any sense in the Theatre of the Absurd.
