Ecoterrorism in Poland? Signs of Environmental Extremism in the Republic in the 21st Century

Niniejsza praca porusza problematykę ekstremizmu ekologicznego i ekoterroryzmu. W pierwszym rozdziale autorka podejmuje się analizy terminologii związanej z ekoterroryzmem, a także przygląda się regulacjom prawnym przyjętym w tym zakresie w wybranych państwach, tj. w Stanach Zjednoczonych i Wielkiej Brytanii (które są najbardziej narażone na dotkliwe skutki działań ekstremistow ekologicznych), Polsce i Unii Europejskiej. W drugim rozdziale opisane zostają jedne z najstarszych, największych i najbardziej znanych z tego typu organizacji: Earth First! (EF!) oraz Animal Liberation Front (ALF). W trzecim rozdziale wymienione i scharakteryzowane są polskie organizacje, których działania noszą znamiona ekstremizmu ekologicznego. W zakończeniu wieńczącym pracę zostają one poddane ocenie pod kątem wpisywania sie w ekoterroryzm, także poprzez wskazanie wspólnych cech między nimi a EF! i ALF.

This thesis addresses the issue of environmental extremism and ecoterrorism. In the first chapter, the author undertakes an analysis of the terminology related to ecoterrorism and also looks at the legal regulations adopted in this field in selected countries, that is in the United States and the United Kingdom (which are most exposed to the severe consequences of the actions of ecological extremists), Poland and the European Union. The second chapter describes some of the oldest, largest and best known of such organisations: Earth First! (EF!) and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). The third chapter lists and characterises Polish organisations whose activities bear the hallmarks of environmental extremism. The concluding section assesses these organisations in terms of their fit with ecoterrorism, also by identifying the common features between them and EF! and ALF.
