Dialogi Platona w kinie.

master
The aim of this work is to show how the main issues of the philosophy of Plato, included in his dialogues, are reflected in the cinema. The main points of Plato's philosophy are: the Two Worlds Theory, illustrated, among others, in his famous Allegory of the Cave of the Republic (Politeia) Book VII, the question of the soul’s immortality, considered in the Phaedo, when discussing the death of Socrates, the path a human being must follow in order to achieve virtue, discussed in the Symposium, as well as the triad of Beauty, Goodness and Truth, of which Plato writes in many of his dialogues. In this paper, films that, according to the author, deal with the above issues, are discussed and illustrated. They include films by directors such as Chaplin, Dreyer, Antonioni, Herzog, Kubrick, Greenaway, Scorsese. Most attention is paid to Plato’s vision of human nature. A human being is composed of an immortal soul and body. The rational soul of human being is an immortal element, which enables to associate with the true reality - the eternal ideas. Happiness is, next to the harmony of the soul, an overview of ideas, through nous and noesis, intellectual intuitive insight. Meanwhile, from the beginning of the modern era, this vision of a modern man is being constantly, progressively reduced, decreasing a human being to one, physical dimension. The process of the reduction and its exemplification in the cinema is presented in the first chapter. Much space is given to the discussion of the aforementioned triad: Goodness, Beauty and Truth, which is largely relativised in the cinema. Kubrick’s film A Clockwork Orange serves as an example of the relativisation of the good. The cinematic treatment of the truth is illustrated by Antonioni's Blow up. The greatest philosopher of antiquity, after whom, the philosophy consists merely of footnotes to him, as Alfred Whitehead claims, left an indelible mark on each of the areas of culture, including of course the cinema. This paper seeks to exemplify the confrontation of the great thought of Plato with the cinema.pl
Szczęście to, obok harmonii duszy, właśnie ogląd idei, dzięki nous i noesis – intelektualnemu wglądowi intuicyjnemu.
