Alchemist of the cinema. Jan Švankmajer's cabinet of curiosities.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza twórczości Jana Švankmajera w kontekście zjawisk kulturowych takich jak idee gabinetów osobliwości, tradycja alchemiczna i groteskowość. Analizowane filmy, niezależnie od chronologii i metrażu, zostały podzielne na bloki tematyczne, w których główny nacisk położony jest na poszukiwanie przedstawionych powyżej motywów kulturowych. Celem tego zabiegu jest wyeksponowanie tropów, które w publikowanych analizach są zazwyczaj pomijane bądź zaledwie sygnalizowane. Wstęp do pracy stanowi zarysowanie historyczno-kulturowego tła, a przede wszystkim przedstawienie rozwoju sztuki awangardowej na terenie Czech. Ważniejsze wydarzenia historyczne zostały zestawione z życiorysem reżysera w formie tabeli. Praca nie ma charakteru polemiki z innymi opracowaniami. Jest to przede wszystkim subiektywna i skoncentrowana wokół zainteresowań autorki ekskursja po dziełach Jana Švankmajera.

AbstractThe purpose of this thesis is to analyze the works of Jan Švankmajerin context of cultural phenomena such as ideas of cabinets of curiosities, alchemical tradition and grotesque. The analyzed films, regardless of their chronology and length, are split into segments, where the emphasis is on exploration of cultural themes presented above. The aim of this procedure is to expose themes, which are usually omitted or merely indicated. Historical and cultural background and above all, presenting the development of avant-garde art in the Czech Republic is the introduction to this work. Major historical events and the biography of director have been arranged in a tabular form. This thesis is not a polemic with other studies. This is a primarily subjective and centered around the interests of the author excursion into films of Jan Švankmajer.
